About Us

Underground Fitness started when some friends decided to get together in a back yard gym and work out together.

CrossFit was just starting, and this was the testing grounds. This group of friends realized they had discovered something special and one of them decided to start a gym!

With bare bones equipment and a garage space, Underground Fitness was born!

Fast forward to today and we boast a 5000 square feet facility. Our members always have their own space and rarely must share equipment.

After 10 years in the business we know functional fitness and we know the importance of a strong community!

Our coaching team is the most experienced and knowledgeable you will find in our area with vast credentials and a combined 25 years of experience!

We have come a long way since those first days, but every class still feels a group of friends getting together to do CrossFit in the back yard!

I attended my first CrossFit Class in 2012 after excepting a challenge from a friend.  One class is all it took to realize I had found something very special! The support and encouragement I received from the people in that class was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

CrossFit has had such a positive impact on my life I felt compelled to help others discover what this training can do for them. Becoming a coach has given me an opportunity to make a real difference in peoples lives. I feel very fortunate to be in this position and look forward to opening up those gym doors every day! even at 5:45 am!

Crossfit and Bodyfit Coach

Riley Kernaghan

I first walked in Cranbrook Crossfit's doors in Sept 2013. I had always been active in sports at school but after I graduated highschool I was missing that competitive, athletic outlet. I had tried the conventional gyms but always felt bored, had no idea what I was doing, and had no direction or goals. I was so insecure in my surroundings I rarely made It off of the elliptical!

Fast forward 6.5 years later, Cranbrook Crossfit has changed my life.

It's the community that greets you every day, the friends you make along the way, and the relationship you start to build with yourself. Growing up I was ashamed of my strong muscular legs and wouldn't dream of lifting weights for fear of looking "too bulky". However I have now learned to love my body and what it is capable of. I LOVE being strong. I have reached goals I could have never even dreamt of. Crossfit has changed me in so many areas of my life, every workout is a mental battle just as much of a physical one. I'm more confident than ever in myself and what I'm capable of achieving.

Crossfit motivated me to continue my education when I didn't know what I wanted to do after highschool. Now I have found a passion for health and training people while motivating them to reach their goals. I coach in hopes of helping everyone experience the personal growth I have experienced physically and mentally. Find something that you love and stick with it; have patience with yourself, trust the process, and you will see results. I fell in love with the community of Crossfit and it has forever changed me. Let us help it change you!

Jaime Sierra

I have been a part of the Cranbrook CrossFit community since February 2012.

I started my CrossFit coaching career in September 2013 by taking my CrossFit Level 1 certification and most recently in September of 2018 I took my CrossFit Level 2.

I am very passionate about the benefits of CrossFit, in particular it’s applicability to first responders and its ability to prepare them for the difficulties of their job, the unknown and unknowable. Best part about being a coach for myself is seeing how CrossFit transforms people. CrossFit enhances their body, their mind, their health, their relationships, their work and everything in between.

It’s fun just being a part of that!

I joined cranbrook CrossFit in 2011 back when it was Underground Fitness and was more of a boot camp class. I joined because I have always loved fitness and this was a new and exciting way to stay healthy and strong. After just a few classes I came down with the CrossFit Fever!

Over the years training, I have built the endurance and ability to hike mountains with friends and run obstacle races with teams of people. Crossfit has given me confidence and both physical and mental strength to push through not only the workouts but life’s personal challenges. I’ve watched this gym evolve from a small space and a hand full of people to one of the largest gyms I’ve seen, building a community of people with the drive and enthusiasm to fill it.

I took my CrossFit level 1 in 2012 and CrossFit level 2 in 2017. I decided to become a coach because I wanted to help fellow athletes achieve their fitness goals and to inspire them to push outside their comfort zone.

I love to see the sense of accomplishment on a persons face when they hit a PR, or finish an enduring workout such as Murph. I am happy to share my passion with anyone who comes through Cranbrook CrossFit’s doors and love to see the transformation of what hard work and dedication with this sport can do for peoples mind, body and well being.

I was intimidated to try Crossfit for the first time, but once I did, there was no turning back!

I fell in love with Crossfit because it’s so multifaceted. I appreciate the new skills it pushes me to learn and refine; the mental grit the workouts require; the never ending goals the program allows me to chase, and the camaraderie the atmosphere naturally creates.

Initially I became interested in taking my level 1 to simply challenge myself and to improve my own personal technique. Since becoming a coach, however, I have really enjoyed sharing in members’ successes – from watching their faces light up after attempting a new movement or attaining a new PR, to watching them find that extra gear towards the end of a tough workout.

Heading in to the gym to help people crush goals and push themselves out of their comfort zones never feels like “work” to me! If anything, it’s fun and inspiring and motivates me to dig a little deeper when I'm out on the floor grinding through a WOD myself!

My Qualifications:

  • Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification

  • Nutritional Coaching Institute Level 1 Certification

Crossfit Coach / Nutrition Coach

Madie Anderson

I started crossfit in 2013, after finishing a bodybuilding competition, and was looking for something different. I heard a lot of great things about Crossfit and was eager to try it. One class and I was hooked. I have been doing crossfit ever since, and have gone through many different “seasons” during this time. I have done competition training, trained through pregnancy, and now I train because I enjoy the sport. I workout for myself and to be a better mom to my kids.

The community of Crossfit is what keeps people coming back. Not only do you get a great workout, but you are part of an amazing community that supports you and cheers you on. There are so many great parts of Crossfit, and I'm so glad to be a part of the members health journey, and help them find what they are capable of.

The best part is that you are able to do crossfit, no matter what season of life you are in. If you are pregnant, or have an injury, we can modify your movements to help you get the best out of your workouts.

I found a love for health and fitness, which is why I became not only a Crossfit coach, but also a Nutrition Coach. I love being able to educate members on how to fuel their bodies for their workouts.

One of the best decisions I ever made was going to a beginners class back in 2013. To say it's changed my life would be an understatement.
